Whether it’s kicking the leaves, cycling, throwing a frisbee, or just taking in some fresh air, Big Day Out is back this May offering a range of activities and incentives to discover the great outdoors.
Following the success of previous Big Day Out events it will be held across an entire weekend on May 21 and 22, 2016.
The aim is to get everyone out and about and enjoying the outdoors and open spaces around them. Recognising the benefits, both physical and mental health, that come from regular outdoor activity.
An array of partners are supporting Big Day Out, including Warwickshire County Council and the county’s district and borough councils, plus many more organisations.
There is also growing support from clubs with parkrun organisers, tennis and boating all featuring in the weekend of activities.

It is estimated in Warwickshire that only one in five people are physically active, in some parts of the county it is as few as one in ten, and Big Day Out hopes to change this by showcasing the benefits of the outdoors.
Cllr Les Caborn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health, said: “Big Day Out is an opportunity for people to enjoy some activities in the great outdoors, improve fitness and general well-being.
“Many complex factors affect wellbeing – social, financial and family circumstances all play a part but lack of fresh air and exercise also has a negative impact.”
Cllr Maggie O’Rourke, the county council’s Chair of the Adults, Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: “There are some very simple things we can all do every day, things like walking, cycling, swimming or playing games are associated with higher wellbeing and Big Day Out should give people a good start.”
